The rise of quantum information science -- including quantum communication theory, quantum cryptography, and quantum computation -- has forced us to re-examine some of our basic ideas about information. In what sense is quantum entanglement a type of "information"? In what sense is the dynamical evolution of a quantum device a type of "computation"? This talk will try to draw on some of the lessons from the quantum realm to suggest a general framework for thinking about information.
