The staff of the Center for the Science of Information, led by managing director Bob Brown, facilitate and support the day-to-day operation of the Center and ensure that the Center’s nationwide network of researchers work as effectively and efficiently as possible. The staff also implements the education and diversity components of Center’s strategic plan, organizing opportunities for graduate students and faculty researchers from across the country to meet, collaborate, and present their work. Education director Brent Ladd spearheads many events, including multidisciplinary workshops with hundreds of annual attendees, “summer schools” that encourage peer-peer and faculty-student interchanges, “Science of Information Days” that spread knowledge of the Center’s work to a broader audience, and massive open online classrooms (MOOCs) that engage thousands of online learners. The Center’s Director of Diversity Kelly Andronicos oversees the Center’s efforts to increase the participation of underrepresented groups, providing students funded research and mentoring experiences with the field’s top faculty at the most prestigious schools and opening networking channels through educational programming. Multimedia specialist Mike Atwell coordinates the Center’s online presence and administers the Center’s efforts to communicate the groundbreaking work being done by the Center to the academic community, related industry institutions, and the public at large.
